Fritz was the hunchbacked assistant of Henry Frankenstein. He helped the former medical student in his experiments to give life to the dead. Fritz's primary purpose was to acquire body parts for Henry, assisting him in digging up graves. Tasked with acquiring a brain from Goldstadt Medical College, Fritz intended to steal a normal brain from Dr. Waldman's laboratory, but an accident resulted in him dropping the jar, forcing him to instead steal a jar containing an abnormal one, which he passed off as a normal brain. Following the creation of the Frankenstein monster, Fritz took great delight in tormenting the poor creature with a whip and torch despite Henry's repeated warnings. Ultimately, this proved to be Fritz's undoing. After being pushed too far, the monster lashed out violently and killed the hunchback.
